Welcome to the NOTMC
Please see the What’s On Page for our Trip Programme.
Herbert Forest Tracks have all re-opened following harvesting and weather events. Work is still in progress to restore damaged areas so extra care is needed in negotiating these sections but overall the tracks are well marked and readily accessible.

Welcome to the North Otago Tramping and Mountaineering Club (NOTMC) based in Oamaru, New Zealand.
We hope this site will give you all the information you need to join like minded people and enjoy some of the unrivalled opportunities for tramping and hiking that North Otago has to offer.
The club was established in October 1977 with 13 people and we still have members from that earlier period. Today our membership is over 70 with a varied programme of day/ weekend trips, longer expeditions and courses both in North Otago and other regions of the South Island. We are affiliated to the Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand.
North Otago has a varied landscape with 2 ranges – St Marys and the Kakanui range both within easy reach. There is also magnificent podocarp forest around Herbert and excellent mountain biking which is also part of the club’s programme of activities.
The club is also active in commenting on local issues relating to tramping and respecting the environment where we tramp. We enjoy good relationships with local forestry and landowners and included in our programme is restoring and conservation work on local tracks.
This site should tell you the main things you need to know about NOTMC. However far better is to contact us and come to one of the meetings. You can be sure of a warm welcome from friendly and experienced members with a programme to suit all ages and abilities. See you there !!
Non members need to ring the Trip Organiser prior to coming on a Day Trip. Unfortunately we can’t take you if you just arrive at our meeting place on the day.
Whilst there are no official Covid restrictions we can resume normal club activities with some additional observations and considerations. We encourage you to wear masks in vehicles and if you are not feeling well then please do not attend any activities.
