Hideaway Hut, Ahuriri Valley
One of my favourite huts because of its historical nature, as it was built in the 1890’s for the musterer’s of Benmore Station. Its roof holds some interesting reading with names permanently etched in the corrugated iron, including Lord Bledisloe. A good walk on a hot day. In the Ahuriri Valley we cross the Ahuriri River and continue past the large tarn and cross a creek just before reaching the hut. We will return the same way.
