Clubnights
Club night is at 7.30 pm on the second Monday of each month except December and January. Meetings are held in the North Otago Search and Rescue Headquarters, 1 Severn Street. Entrance is the first on the left from the bottom of Severn Street. Potential members are welcome.
Trip Costs
Trip transport costs are shared among participants. Some trips involve additional accommodation and activity costs.
Trip Grading
E Up to 4 hours walking on tracks
M Up to 8 hours walking, reasonable fitness needed.
F Over 8 hours walking, usually rough terrain, a higher level of fitness and alpine equipment often needed.

Saturday 5th-Sunday 6th October: Otamatapaio Hut
This is a 4 bunk hut on major tributary of the Waitaki River, accessed up an easement just before Sailors Cutting. Walking starts from a carpark on Backyards Road and continues for 15 km/ 5 hours to the hut up an old farm track with river crossings. Tents required.

Sunday 13th October: Kahikatea Lodge circuit
Starting from the carpark at the end of Mount Misery Road, walk down the track to the Kahikatea Lodge, then up the ridge towards Mount Miserable and back to the carpark.

Monday 14th October: Clubnight – Turkiye and Croatia
Speakers: Julian and Lynette Hardy will be talking about their recent trip to Turkiye, Croatia and beyond (a bit in Amsterdam and London).

Sunday 20th October: Waianakarua to Kakanui
A beach walk from the Waianakarua River mouth to Kakanui. Terrain includes sand, limestone, volcanic rock, natural tunnels, caves and rock shelves. Timing centres on low tide at 12 noon. Wet feet likely. Fauna ranges from seagulls to surfers.

Saturday 2nd-Sunday 3rd November: Mount Somers
Plan is to walk from Lake Emily to Lake Heron or reverse with an overnight in either Double Hut or Manuka Hut. This is something different for our club but it is not a demanding walk. No big hills or long distances. A good one if you haven’t done an overnighter before. Some tents may be required as huts are not big. Hopefully two cars so we can swap keys.

Sunday 10th November: Mount Milne (1831 Metres)
Mount Milne is the second highest peak in the Kirkliston Range on the west side of the Hakataramea Valley. It is a climb of about 1300 metres.

Saturday 16th-Sunday 17th November: Paradise Valley
Paradise Creek flows into the Hopkins Valley north of the Huxley River. The valley is accessed by a scramble up the ridge above the Huxley. Camp beside Paradise Creek. Return over the ridge. 4WDs and tents required.

Sunday 1st December: Scout Hill (892 metres)
Scout hill lies in the tussock country between the Kauru and Kakanui South Branch Rivers. It offers good views of the surrounding hills with the added bonus of basalt boulders and columns.

Saturday 7th-Sunday 8th December: “Love our Huts and Tracks”
As the Club’s contribution to the FMC campaign we will check out the huts in the Hopkins Valley. By a combination of 4 wheel driving and tramping, the aim will be to visit Monument, Elcho, Cullers, Dodger and Red Huts and Dasler Biv. 4WDs required.

Speaker: Dave Woods will talk about his recent climbing exploits in the UK.

Saturday 14th-Sunday 15th December: North Temple
The North Temple valley leads to possibly the most accessible alpine cirque in Aotearoa, involving a 2 ½ hour tramp from the Temple Shelter. Camp overnight with time to explore the head of the valley or climb a mountain before returning by the same route. The beech forest should be resplendent with scarlet mistletoe. Tents required.

Saturday 21st-Sunday 22nd December: Cloudy Peak (1526 metres)
Cloudy Peak is a high point in the Dunstan Mountains above Tarras. It provides fantastic views of the Upper Clutha plains and the peaks of the Lindis and St Bathans Ranges.
Saturday: drive to Ardgour; mountain bike part way/ walk the 15 km to the top of Cloudy Peak; stay Dunstan Downs Backpackers;
Sunday: Wether Range Conservation Area – 3 km/ 1 ½ hours to 1464 metre peak; or Hideaway Biv, Ahuriri Valley, depending on river level.
