July Club Night

Meeting Report 10th July 2023

Last month we had For June a night out playing indoor bowls instead of the usual meeting.14 people joined in and the winner on the night was Margaret Chetwin. This was held at the Galleon Complex and some of also enjoyed a meal there.

Trip Reports Deep Stream A good day out for 3 members but hampered a little by Matagauri.
Kings Birthday Wknd. Weekend to Cameron Hut was cancelled due to bad weather
Elephant Hill A good turn out. Lots of people who have never been there before.
Millennium Track A car load left early Sunday for this walk from the Taieri river mouth.
There was no midwinter trip this year due to lack of hut accomodation and illness. Wednesday Walkers gave their report and also celebrated 35 yrs of Wednesday walking.

Up and coming trips Mt Dalgety, Staircase hut.,Peaks around Port Chalmers, Mt Sommers base Camp walks.
Our guest speakers this club night were Geoff and Mary Korver.They spoke about their trip in the Japanese Alps.It was an West to East traverse and included a climb to the summit of Mt Yari.It is a trip for the summer months in a National Park and mostly follows the ridge line. Geoff spoke of some long and hot days but the huts were very comfortable with food and bedding supplied.Mary talked about the native plants some of which grow here and how the vegatation changed with the altitude.They saw some rare plants flowering and had beautiful photos of their expedition. Meeting closed at 8.40pm
