Local Bike Ride
SUN 25th FEBRUARY 2018:
The day dawned acceptable for biking, so Lyn and Jane set off to Maheno on their bikes, to meet up with Colin and Colin. Once organised, we headed westwards gradually climbing up Island Stream Rd to the junction of Wairoa Rd and Herbert Rd. From there we zoomed downhill towards Herbert to find Ross R, then grinded up Tulliemet Rd to the magnificent views found when arriving at One Tree Hill Rd. Having done 22km’s by now- we had a short break admiring North Otago’s landscape. Then it was mostly downhill until we biked through Kuriheka, finding a nice lunch spot under a cannon! Although of differing capabilities, we opted not to take any extensions so headed back to Maheno.
Having a cafe at Maheno is a nice bonus! We enjoyed a drink or two, and while Colin and Colin loaded their bikes in their vehicles, Lyn and Jane headed back to Kakanui adding around 7km each way to the trip.
It was good weather for biking [not too hot/sunny], being a small group we could re group easily and quickly, and able to have quality conversation on the way.
