Clubnights

Club night is at 7.30 pm on the second Monday of each month except December and January.  Meetings are held in the North Otago Search and Rescue Headquarters, 1 Severn Street.  Entrance is the first on the left from the bottom of Severn Street. Potential members are welcome.

Trip Costs

Trip transport costs are shared among participants.  Some trips involve additional accommodation and activity costs.

Trip Grading

E        Up to 4 hours walking on tracks
M      Up to 8 hours walking, reasonable fitness needed.
F        Over 8 hours walking, usually rough terrain, a higher level of fitness and alpine equipment often needed.

Canyon Creek
Jan 29 – Jan 30 all-day

A classic trip up into one of the wonders of the Waitaki District – the upper cirque of Canyon creek. Overnight at Bivvy Rock. Tents and 4wd vehicles required.

Cruisey Bike Ride around Otago Harbour
Feb 20 @ 8:30 am

Starting from Port Chalmers, we will cross the harbour by ferry to Portobello and ride the now completed Harbour Cycleway to Dunedin, stopping at Macandrew Bay for lunch. We will then return to Port Chalmers by the West Harbour Cycleway, including some back road riding.

Waianakarua River North Branch

Scramble, paddle and wade up the river bed from Camp Iona. Be prepared to get wet and carry everything in a waterproof dry bag.

Cameron Valley
Mar 5 – Mar 6 all-day

Cameron Creek joins the Makarora River 8 kms south of the Haast Pass after passing through a spectacular gorge. We will travel over on Friday evening, stay at Hawea, Makarora or Cameron Flat. Walk into hut (4 bunks) on Saturday and explore the area. Back out and home on Sunday. May need tents.

Ben Ohau (1522 metres)

Climb Ben Ohau from Lake Ohau – a climb of 1000 metres. Return via Greta Stream. Great views of

the Mackenzie basin and lakes and surrounding mountains. Mostly on track.
