Clubnights

Club night is at 7.30 pm on the second Monday of each month except December and January.  Meetings are held in the North Otago Search and Rescue Headquarters, 1 Severn Street.  Entrance is the first on the left from the bottom of Severn Street. Potential members are welcome.

Trip Costs

Trip transport costs are shared among participants.  Some trips involve additional accommodation and activity costs.

Trip Grading

E        Up to 4 hours walking on tracks
M      Up to 8 hours walking, reasonable fitness needed.
F        Over 8 hours walking, usually rough terrain, a higher level of fitness and alpine equipment often needed.

Sat 29th – Sun 30th March: Rabbiters Peak (2285 metres)

Rabbiters Peak stands above the North Temple cirque to the north. Walk in and camp above the North Temple on Saturday; climb Rabbiters Peak and return on Sunday. Tents required. Option for joining to camp and exploring the North Temple area

Easter: Friday 18th – Monday 21st April: Mount Heim (2205 metres)

Mt Heim stands to the west of the Canyon Creek. Leave on Friday, drive up the Ahuriri, walk in to Canyon Creek and camp in the upper valley. On Saturday climb Mt Heim. Sunday, walk out via the ridge to the east of Canyon Creek and Pt 1608. Tents and 4WDs required.

A straightforward 1200 metre climb up the southern end of the Ohau Range. Option of walk to Egg Lake if weather not great.

A trip up the Hopkins Valley, spending Saturday night at Elcho Hut, then walking up to the Dodger Hut and return to Elcho on Sunday. Walk out Monday. Tents may be required.

Start from the end of Special School Road, a round trip climbing to the top, then dropping down into Jacksons Creek and back along the Otekaieke Bridle Track.

Matariki w/e: Friday 20th- Sunday 22nd June: Silverpeaks

Take the River Track along the south branch of the Waikouaiti River, climb to Philip J Cox Hut, then to The Gap, down to the ABC Cave and Jubilee Hut, and then climb out past Pulpit Rock to complete the circuit.
